Established on 16 November 2009 at the Sungai Long Campus, the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (formerly FMHS) has grown into a dynamic institution dedicated to excellence in education, research, and healthcare. Under the leadership of our Founding Dean, Emeritus Prof. Dr. Cheong Soon Keng, the Faculty launched four core undergraduate programmes in Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Nursing, and Physiotherapy.
Since welcoming our first MBBS cohort in 2010, the Faculty has expanded to include MSc and PhD programmes, cutting-edge research laboratories, and four dedicated research centres in stem cell research, cancer, traditional Chinese medicine, and non-communicable diseases. Clinical Training Centres in Ampang and Ipoh further enhance hands-on learning for our students.
In 2018, we achieved ISO 9001 certification and co-hosted a prestigious joint conference with Academia Sinica, Taiwan. We have remained resilient and innovative, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, by swiftly adopting online teaching and learning methods.
On 13 September 2022, the Faculty was renamed in honour of Mr. M. Kandiah Murugasu, a pioneering figure in Malaysian social welfare. Today, MK FMHS continues to strive towards shaping compassionate healthcare professionals and advancing medical knowledge for the betterment of society.
